Empowering Smallholder Farmers through Innovation: Field Day Held in Melka Nono
Melka Nono Sub-City, August 2, 2025 – Solar Village Ethiopia, in collaboration with women-led small and medium enterprises (SMEs), successfully hosted a vibrant Field Day that brought together 35 smallholder vegetable farmers (19 men and 16 women) for a day of practical learning, innovation, and peer networking.
Held at the demonstration site of our women-led SME partners, the event aimed to promote sustainable agriculture and entrepreneurial growth among local farmers—especially those new to the SVE network.
🌱 Event Highlights:
-
Showcasing Improved Seedling Varieties: Farmers explored high-potential varieties tailored for increased yield and climate resilience.
-
Market Access and Linkage Promotion: Participants received key insights on market opportunities and were introduced to potential buyers and agribusiness connections.
-
Interactive Demonstrations: Farmers toured demo plots, engaged in knowledge exchange, and learned practical techniques they can adopt in their own farms.
The event sparked strong interest in continuing engagement. Many participants, including first-time attendees, expressed their intent to purchase seedlings after the rainy season, indicating growing trust and demand in SVE-supported innovations.
This Field Day reflects Solar Village Ethiopia’s continued commitment to empowering smallholder farmers—especially women—through solar-powered solutions, innovation, and market-driven approaches.
