Field Day Event at Burka Belesie: Showcasing Climate-Smart Farming in Action
On June 21, 2025, Solar Village Ethiopia (SVE), in partnership with the Shaggar City Agriculture Office, successfully hosted a vibrant Field Day Event at a vegetable demonstration site in Burka Belesie Kebele, Bero Woreda, Melka Nono Sub-city.
Purpose? To boost awareness and demand for climate-smart agricultural technologies—especially solar-powered irrigation and compost-grown organic vegetable seedlings—and to create stronger market linkages for smallholder farmers.
The demonstration site, managed by the innovative farmer Getu Telahun, provided a real-farm setting for 79 participants, including:
70 local smallholder farmers (20 of whom were women)
9 experts and officials from the Agriculture Office
Attendees witnessed firsthand the efficiency, productivity, and sustainability benefits of these green technologies. Engaging Q&A sessions further enriched the learning experience, allowing farmers to ask practical questions and deepen their understanding.
