Mr. Biru Melka Bula
Biru Melka is a seasoned horticulturist and agribusiness development specialist with a BSc in Horticulture and an MA in Development Management. With over a decade of experience in Ethiopia’s fruit and vegetable sector, he specializes in post-harvest handling, quality assurance, food safety, and market linkages.
His career includes key leadership and technical roles at Meki Batu Union, Luna Fruits PLC, and IDH – The Sustainable Trade Initiative, where he worked closely with smallholder farmers to help them achieve certification standards such as GLOBALG.A. P and HACCP. His efforts have contributed to value chain improvements, farmer professionalization, and enhanced traceability for sustainable agriculture.
Currently, Biru serves as the Regional Field Coordinator at Solar Village Ethiopia, overseeing field operations for the “Increase Access to Climate-Smart Technology and Inputs to Improve Local Market System” project funded by USAID. His mission is to empower smallholder farmers by facilitating access to innovative inputs, climate-smart technologies, and inclusive market opportunities.
