We are proud to share that Solar Village Ethiopia participated in the official handover ceremony of a major solar-powered irrigation project in Wera Dijo Woreda, Halaba Zone.
On February 11, 2018 E.C., a 60 million birr solar irrigation plant in Bendo Choloksa Kebele was officially handed over, marking a significant step toward climate-resilient agriculture in the region.
Project Highlights
💧 Development of 50 hectares of irrigated farmland
⚡ Powered by five deep water wells with solar pumping systems
👩🏽🌾 Direct beneficiaries: 300 farmers
⏳ Construction timeline: 9 months
🤝 10% of the total cost contributed by the local community
The project aims to boost agricultural productivity, strengthen climate resilience, and reduce poverty by enabling sustainable irrigation practices. In the coming years, the broader program is expected to benefit up to 10,000 farmers across the zone, including women, youth, and people with disabilities.
During the ceremony, district and zonal leaders emphasized the importance of collaboration between the regional government, stakeholders, contractors, and the community. They reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring logistical support and timely completion of the project.
Our Managing Director, Mr. Lebeza Alemu, expressed his pride in contributing to this transformative initiative. He reaffirmed Solar Village Ethiopia’s commitment to delivering high-quality construction and ensuring that each solar pump supports up to 10 hectares of productive farmland—creating measurable improvements in farmers’ livelihoods.
We are honored to stand alongside government partners and local communities in delivering clean energy solutions that drive agricultural transformation.
